Home office

I have a nearly-current-model MacBook Air for work (it’s a 13” M3, but predates the November line-wide bump to 16GB RAM) and mostly use that, but really need to find a Mac for home. I picked up a Samsung 28” 4K monitor for cheap, but as it doesn’t have an onboard webcam like my much-missed LG UltraFine 5K, I’ve had to attach a Logitech Brio 300 webcam. Continuing the theme, I have a Logitech MX Keys for Mac keyboard (flat keyboards with low travel ftw) and a Logitech MX Master 3S mouse. These sit on an Orbitkey desk mat, which in turn sits on an Ikea Bekant desk, while I sit on a Steelcase Gesture chair.

EDC

I don’t carry a lot in my pockets - just my iPhone 16 Plus (in white) with an OhSnap! SnapGrip 4 attached, an Apple Watch Series 9 on my wrist, plus three keys and a Myki in my pocket. Everything else goes in a backpack - right now I am rotating between a Tortuga Setout Laptop backpack and a Mystery Ranch Urban Assault 21L. (I am a slut for new bags though and have my eye on some Aer gear.)¹

In the backpack you’ll usually find my laptop, an iPad Air (5th generation), AirPods Pro 2 and/or AirPods Max (depending on the day), a Yeti Rambler 36oz in Alpine Yellow, my Bellroy tech kit, and some Oakley Holbrook sunglasses.

Tech

The stuff I use every day includes Zed, Warp, Arc (though I am training myself to use Dia), Mail (I have gone through so many mail clients for macOS and this truly is the best of a bad bunch), Notion, 1Password, Reminders, Alfred, Rocket, PopClip, Moom, Shottr, Spotify, and the Breville Precision Brewer.

Media

I have an old SFF PC I’ve repurposed as a Ubuntu 24.04 LTS media server, with a 120GB SSD for speedy downloads and writes, and a 6TB spinny disk for bulk storage. It runs SABNzbd, Sonarr, Radarr, Jellyfin, Profilarr, Bazarr, Mylar, Kapowarr, and Komga. Playback for movies and TV via Infuse for Apple TV on a 75" Hisense TV with a pair of HomePod minis for audio, and I read comics on my iPad using Panels.
