This seems awfully familiar…
Here we are again, under lockdown. Mercifully, this one is only five days (or at least that’s the plan) but we’re back in stage 4: restricted movement to within 5km of home, one trip outside the house per day, and only for four approved purposes.
I can’t help but wonder if this is what life is going to be like from now on: new strains of COVID that evolve seasonally like the flu and which are not covered by existing vaccines, periodic lockdowns as a recurring, accepted part of life. I wonder how decentralised our cities might become, as people start to work remotely more and more and rely on delivery by force of circumstance; and how much we might come to rely on “essential workers” to deal with the outside world on our behalf.
The federal government needs to step up efforts to make vaccines available as soon as possible, and people need to ignore anti-vaxxer bullshit and get vaccinated. We can’t keep doing this.
